The Modern Rolex Oyster Perpetual Collection

Rolex Oyster

That said, entry-level Rolex watches are still largely Rolex. The company doesn’t compromise in any way, and many of the elements you see on top-of-the-line watches can be found on the brand’s most humble offerings. Stainless steel isn’t some cost-cutting, cheap compromise. It’s the same 904L Oyster steel used in the rest of the catalog, forged in Rolex’s own in-house foundry.
Oyster steel is extremely strong, highly resistant to pitting and corrosion, and maintains an unprecedented polish. 904L stainless steel, used primarily in the aerospace and chemical industries for its superior corrosion resistance, is what gives steel Rolex its distinctive luster, while almost every other major manufacturer in the industry uses standard 316L stainless steel.
Inside the 36mm and 41mm versions of the Rolex Oyster Perpetual is the brand’s new generation 3230 movement. Based on Rolex’s proprietary Chronergy Escapement and benefiting from a Paraflex shock absorber and a blue Parachrom hairspring for superior resistance to shocks, temperature fluctuations and magnetic fields, this updated movement is the same as the current 41mm No-Date Submariner and the new 36mm Explorer inside. Additionally, it offers users a power reserve of around 70 hours thanks to its more efficient escapement and redesigned gear train.
If anything, the smaller Oyster Perpetual has a more impressive movement, with the 28mm, 31mm and 34mm versions all featuring the replica Rolex 2232 caliber. Equipped with a Syloxi hairspring made of silicon, Rolex’s patented hairspring is completely impervious to magnetic forces, while providing better stability in the face of mechanical shocks from temperature changes.
In addition, the bright and vibrant dial colors that accompany the latest update for 2020 are the only reason why the collection has seen such a big pop in the last few years. While there is some overlap throughout the collection, there are some that are dedicated to certain sizes.
There are some that have become real favorites, especially the bright and colorful options that are reminiscent of the vintage Stella dials found on the old Rolex Datejust and Day-Date best replica watches. Like most of Rolex’s stainless steel watches, the current Oyster Perpetual collection is completely sold out at retailers, with select dial colors for the 36mm and 41mm models known to sell for up to three times the original new retail price on the pre-owned market. Rolex clearly ticks all the boxes with its range of well-designed and handsomely styled chronograph models. The classic Rolex Oyster Perpetual is never under-dressed or overdressed; it is simply an understated act of class.
